Janice O'Callaghan was born in Dunedin and has been painting in water colour for more than 40 years.

She trained as a primary school teacher in Dunedin where she specialised in art.

Later after travelling overseas and teaching in Mosgiel she attended oil painting classes at Otago Polytechnic and private water colour classes with a well known Dunedin teacher and artist, H.V. Miller.

Since marrying and bringing up four sons she has returned to her painting and finds a rich source of inspiration in the Catlins district with its towering cliffs, sandy beaches, waterfalls and bush clad hills.

Janice has belonged to the Otago Art Society and Art South Otago for more than forty years and exhibits at their exhibitions. She also has paintings displayed at The Art Station in Dunedin and for many years she tutored adult students in watercolour at South Otago High School.

She has lived and holidayed in the Catlins for more than forty years, finding inspiriation from the rich source of subject matter that the Catlins offers with its towering cliffs, sandy beaches, waterfalls, and bush-clad hills.
